廣東話有「篤背脊」之說，如果想在英文中表達此意，或者可用諺語 stab in the back（在背後插你一刀）呢。stab指用刀插傷他人身體。這句話繪形繪聲說明在別人背後用刀傷人，引申義與「篤背脊」差不多。凡是暗中出手對付或出賣朋友或信任自己的人，在背後做出傷害他們的行為，都可以用這動詞 stab (someone) in the back形容。例如：
His brother stabbed him in the back by running away with all the money they had.
他的哥哥出賣了他，挾了他們所有錢財跑掉。
He was really upset when he found out that he was lied to and stabbed in the back by his friends.
他發現自己被朋友欺騙了，在背後被插了一刀，十分懊惱。
You have to be careful in your workplace. There are people who may find faults with you and stab you in the back.
在你的工作場所工作一定要小心謹慎。有人會故意找你錯誤，在你背後攻擊你。
背後插刀 損你名譽
這些在背後插人一刀的人，往往在背後出賣別人、傷害人，他們可稱為「backstabbers」。他們總是在別人不在意、不在場或不能辯解的時候中傷他或損害他的名聲。
Beware of backstabbers in the office. They will say bad things about you.
小心公司內在背後打小報告的人。他們會惡意中傷你。
People hate him for he is a backstabber and not trustworthy.
他常常背後傷人，不值得信任，人人都憎恨他。
暗箭傷人 最難應付
在商場或職場，這類人亦很多時被稱為「snipers」，即狙擊手。因為在電視劇或電影中看到的狙擊手，都是躲在暗角射擊目標，所以亦用來比喻那些專門躲在一角攻擊他人或暗箭傷人的人。
Snipers are difficult people in the office and have to be dealt with.
公司內暗箭傷人的人最難應付，一定要認真看待。
A sniper always attacks people by making hurtful or sarcastic remarks.
商場中的狙擊手經常用中傷或嘲諷的說話攻擊他人。
不論是backstabbers 或 snipers，他們都是一些被看成麻煩和不受歡迎的人物，需要警惕他們，亦需要警惕自己不要變成這一種人。■Lina CHU
