反傳統學堂之三

在電影《暴雨驕陽》（Dead Poets Society）中，英文老師約翰．基廷（John Keating）並非教學生英文，更會教做人道理。有一次，他叫幾名學生在庭院中走路，然後評價他們的心態，接着帶出大道理。
Keating: I brought them up here to illustrate the point of conformity: the difficulty in maintaining your own beliefs in the face of others（我叫他們出來，是要闡釋「遵從社會規則」這一點：在面對他人時，堅持自己的信念是如何困難）。
信任自己 自選道路
K: Now, we all have a great need for acceptance. But you must trust that your beliefs are unique, your own, even though others may think them odd or unpopular, even though the herd may go, "That's baaaaad." Robert Frost said, "Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."（嗯，我們全都極需要得到他人接受。但你必須信任你的信念是獨特的，是你自己的，即使其他人覺得它們是怪異或不受歡迎，即使群眾可能說：「那真不─濟─。」羅勃．佛洛斯特說：「兩條路在樹林分叉，而我，我選擇了較少人跡的一條，一切便變得多麼不同。」
一班學生於是在庭院內自由地以自己的方式走路。基廷強調他們不用理會他人，並且詢問不願加入的Dalton，接着的簡單對答也精彩。
學生站桌 換觀察角度
K: You don't have to perform. Just make it for yourself. Mr. Dalton? You be joining us（你們不用表演，只需為自己而做。Dalton 先生？你會加入我們嗎）？
Dalton: Exercising the right not to walk（正在行使不走路的權利）。
K: Thank you, Mr. Dalton. You just illustrated the point. Swim against the stream （謝謝你，Dalton 先生。你剛闡釋了一點：逆流而上）。
電影最經典的一幕，是基廷在課堂上叫學生站在桌上！原因？─to remind yourself that we must constantly look at things in a different way（提醒你自己，我們必須不斷以不同方式觀看事物）。這幕在電影結束時再次震撼地出現，箇中原因有待各位自己發掘，這兒不宜透露太多。
