我們說「某某人戴有色眼鏡看人」，或「不要戴有色眼鏡看事」，寓意戴着有色眼鏡就不能看到人物或事件的真實一面或真相。有色眼鏡有很多種顏色，英文有句相關短語rose-tinted glasses就說出眼鏡的顏色有特別意思。
玫瑰花代表美好成功
大家都知道rose是玫瑰花，其顏色美麗，代表美好、成功，譬如說某些事很成功，大家很高興，可以說coming up roses，又譬如說一些事並非全是好的，當中有些不好的情況要處理，可以說not all roses。

短語rose-tinted glasses中的rose是顏色，是玫瑰花般的粉紅色。而tinted跟coloured的解釋一樣，是染上顏色，rose-tinted/coloured即是染了粉紅色，比喻一些事物看來美滿、令人愉快，但事實未必如此。
