Wellington Street, c.1875
A street from Wyndham Street to Queen's Road Central was constructed in the 1840s and named after Duke of Wellington who defeated Napoleon in the Peninsular War.
The tallest building is the Catholic Church. As the Roman Catholic Church and the Fire Brigade Building built in this street, therefore it had also been called "Roman Temple Street" and "Fire Brigade Building Back Street". It was near the clock tower of Pedder Street,so people called it"Upper Clock Tower Street" too.
There were many eateries, including "Hang Fa Lau"and bakeries established here, so it also got the name of "Food Street". ■
