在本屆奧斯卡頒獎禮奪得6個獎項的《拆彈雄心》，英語名叫《The Hurt Locker》。不但連外國人也不明所以，甚至各有自己對這"hurt locker"的詮釋：有人說hurt locker是指戲中主角放在床下的箱子，因為箱內藏了一些危險的炸彈部分，還有他兒子的照片，都是會hurt他(意指令他受傷或痛心的物件)；有人說hurt locker是一個大型儲物箱，是軍中訓練官懲罰犯規士兵的地方，訓練官會於儲物箱內痛毆士兵，令其痛楚難當；有人說hurt locker只是一個比喻，意指一個令人痛苦無比的地方。
Hurt locker譯作痛苦地
其實hurt locker是美國維珍尼亞州參議員兼作家James Webb於1978年的作品《Fields of Fire》已用過的說法：
"Ahhh, Lieutenant." Snake continued to stare absently at the shrouded treeline. "More gooners than I ever seen. We would really be in the hurt locker tonight."
「不過嘛，中尉……」史納不經意地望着煙霧瀰漫的樹林，說：「從未見過那麼多暴徒，今晚咱們可真的是身處痛苦地啊！」
James Webb的《Fields of Fire》是描述美軍打越戰的故事，書內有很多military slangs(軍中俚語)，Hurt locker正是其一。筆者認為譯作「痛苦地」也頗貼切。
未能肯定出處
話說回來，《拆彈雄心》的英文原名《The Hurt Locker》出處何在，未能肯定。不過這套戲的導演Kathryn Bigelow這樣說：
"The Hurt Locker directly translated means the place of ultimate pain and it's a term that Mark Boal, when he was on the embed in Baghdad with the explosive ordinance(sic)disposal team, would use from time to time mentioning......" If this particular ordinance were to detonate, we would be in the hurt locker."
「The Hurt Locker其實是指令人最痛的地方，這是戰地記者麥克保亞於巴格達採訪拆彈小組時經常引用的說法。他說：如果引爆這法例，我們都會身處這『令人最痛的地方』。」
Hurt locker的同義詞
這「令人最痛的地方」在美國田納西大學Jonathan Lighter所寫的《The Historical Dictionary of American Slang》還有其他同義詞，包括"in the hurt bag"和"in the hurt seat"，都解作身處麻煩或不利之地。
