——Homonyms系列七之六

看來同樣，讀也同音，意則有異，此類字彙就是先前提過的homonym。為免混淆，不妨多點考究，其趣味確實不淺。
The burglar was caught in the act.
竊盜當場被捕（人贓並獲）。
The curtain falls on the third act.
演罷第三幕便完場。
He is a good bat.(他（棒球手）擅於擊球。)
Bats tend to hide in dark caves.
蝙蝠多躲藏在暗洞裡。
She can stay awake and never bat an eyelid.
她可以徹夜不眠而眼也不眨。
The company will settle/foot the bill.
公司會付費。
Birds feed with their bill.(鳥兒以喙啄食。)
Calf是小牛亦解小腿
I am a bit hungry.(我有點肚餓。)
Bit亦是「馬口鐵」，讓騎士控制馬匹的步伐。可用以比喻人決心行事：
He decided to take the bit between his teeth and proceed with his plan.
他決意擺脫掣肘，按計劃前進。
She fell and hurt her calf.
她跌倒而傷了小腿。
The cow gave birth to a calf.
母牛產下了一頭小牛。
At the stadium, there was a mad crush among the crowds.
球場內，人群一片混亂的擠逼。
The fans have a crush on the singer.
歌迷迷戀著歌手。
The chef crushed the nuts to a powder.
廚師把堅果壓碎成粉狀。
He drives me nuts(crazy).(他刺激我至瘋了。)
Current可指流動或流行
Swimmers should stay away from the current.
泳客應遠離海流。
Many classical books are still in current use.
很多經典書本仍是現今通用。
Indians like curry with rice.
印度人喜愛咖喱飯。
Some staff try to curry favour with their boss.
有些員工試圖巴結老闆。
This dish is flat and tasteless. (…beer…)
這菜色淡而無味。（…啤酒走了氣…）
The tyre has gone flat.(車胎漏了氣。)
The floor is flat and slippery.(地板平而滑。)
This flat is too small.(這房子實太細。)
