先前與大家研習的phrasal verbs（「短語動詞」），配以不同介詞（prepositions），同一動詞頓化不一樣的意思。在此再提出一些此類詞組，供大家參閱。
Make「製造、製作、做成」
The burglar was trying to make away/off when the Police caught him.
竊賊正欲逃離但被警察捕獲。
The burglar managed to make off with the money before the arrival of the Police.
警察到達前，竊賊已偷走了金錢，逃之夭夭。
The mist was so thick the motorists could not make out the road signs.
濃霧中駕駛者看不清路牌。
After much effort, he could make out the meaning of the lesson.
幾經努力後，他終於領悟（理解）課文意義。
He finds it hard to make up his mind.
他覺得難以作決（即猶疑不決）。
Actors have to make up for their performance.
藝人要為表演化妝（即粉墨登場）。
Pull「拉、拔、用力拖」
The politicians did not support Government's proposal and started to pull it apart.
政界人士不支持政府的建議，並對之諸多挑剔。
We thought his plan would fail but he managed to pull it off.
我們認定他的計劃會失敗，但他竟能順利成功。
The community fervently hope that young Jason will pull through.
社會人士熱切盼望梁頌學能脫險康復。
Put「放、擺」
Do not pull off tomorrow what should be done today.
今天應做的事切勿延遲至明天（即行事要及時）。
For sponsoring the walkathon, put me down for $500.
為贊助步行籌款，我認捐500元。
The army was called out to put down the demonstrators.
出動了軍隊以鎮壓示威者。
Government put forward proposals for the Council's consideration.
政府向議會提出建議。
The firemen quickly put out the fire.
消防員很快把火救熄了。
The child was put out by his parents' refusal of his request.
那孩童因父母拒絕其要求而生氣。
How can you put up with such a spoilt child?
你怎能容忍如此嬌縱的孩童？
Run「跑、經營」
I run into him every day on my way to school.
我每天在上學途中都遇到他。
We must live within our means and not run up debts.
我們生活必須量入為出，不要債台高築。
Let us run through the guidelines again to avoid mistakes.
讓我們再翻閱指示，以免有誤。
See「看、觀察、了解」
He cannot fool me for I can see through his tricks.
他騙不到我，因我看穿了他的詭計。
She claims to be able to see into the future.
她聲稱能洞悉未來。
