曼聯，英國足球超級聯賽中一隊最受注目的隊伍，上周解僱了上任不過10個月的領隊莫耶斯。被解僱後，莫耶斯發表聲明，其中他指：
「During this period of transition, performances and results have not been what Manchester United and its fans are used to or expect, and I both understand and share their frustration.」
在這個過渡期間，球隊的表現和成績並非如曼聯和球迷所慣見和期望的一樣，而我既理解也分擔他們的失落。
「I remain proud to have led the team to the quarter-finals of this year's Champions League and I remain grateful to Sir Alex Ferguson for believing in my ability and giving me the chance to manage Manchester United.」
能夠帶領球隊打入今年的歐聯八強，我仍然感到驕傲。我仍然感謝費格遜爵士相信我的能力，給我機會管理曼聯。
大方得體 不失風度
很多人都覺得莫耶斯的聲明大方得體，不失風度，沒有抱怨、責備或憤怒。有報章說認為他做到「take it on the chin」。那麼「take it on the chin」的意思是甚麼呢？
Take it on the chin指在拳賽中，下巴捱了一拳，比喻在逆境、不如意、失敗的時候，可以坦然接受，勇敢面對，沒有怨天尤人，表現出勇氣。
He was a bit upset when he lost in the competition but he took it on the chin and decided to try again next year.
他輸了比賽，心情很壞，但他勇敢地承受挫敗，決定明年捲土重來。
No matter what the colleagues say, he always takes it on the chin and focuses just on his work.
不管同事怎麼說，他都能一一承受，只管專注於自己的工作。
Some people are strong enough to take it on the chin when they fail; some, however, are not able to get over and complain all the time.
一些人能夠堅強地承受失敗；但是另一些人則不能面對，總是在抱怨。
勸勉失意 勇敢面對
勸勉別人在失意的時候勇敢面對，可以說keep your chin up或chin up，意思是在困難的時候，要抬起頭，振作起來，不要垂頭喪氣，表現出悲傷、擔心或害怕。
It is difficult to find a job these days, but you should keep your chin up and keep trying.
這些日子，找一份工很困難。不過，你應該振作起來，繼續嘗試。
Chin up. Don't worry. We will be able to finish our work before deadline.
振作起來。不要擔心。我們會在限期前完成工作。
