Li Bai (701 - 762)
A maiden called Luo Fu in Qin;
Picks mulberry leaves
by the green water on a mound.
Adorning the green branches
are her fair arms;
Shining in the white sun, her red gown.
"I've to leave to feed the hungry silk-worms:
The five-horse carriage
shouldn't be hanging around."

秦地羅敷女，
採桑綠水邊。
素手青條上，
紅粧白日鮮。
蠶飢妾欲去，
五馬莫留連。
1 The former domain of the ancient kingdom of Qin (B.C. 221-B.C. 206). It is now around the Shaanxi Province.
2 In ancient times, the chief government official of a district ( 太守) used to travel in a carriage driven by five horses. Here the poet hinted that the official was unwilling to leave the scene.
