「短語動詞」（phrasal verbs）由介詞和動詞組合而成，使同一動詞（verb）可表達多元化意義，巧妙有趣。前文提過一些此類詞組，現在再列舉數個例子，供大家研究。
Care 掛心、關懷、在意、在乎
He does not care about power or position.
他並不重視權勢。
He finds opera boring as he does not care for it.
他覺得歌劇沉悶，因為他並不喜歡此類演藝。
Carry 運載、攜帶
We must carry on with the investigation until all the facts are found.
我們必須繼續查訊，直至真相大白。
New to the office, he does not know how to carry out his duties.
新上任的他未知曉如何執行職務。
He is carried away by his own success.
他被自己的成就沖昏頭腦。
Catch 捕捉
An intelligent student can catch on fast.
聰穎的學子能領悟得快。
To catch up with the others, I have to work harder.
要趕上其他人，我須加倍努力。
Clear 澄清、清除、釋疑、辨明清白
After dinner, mother clears away the table.
晚膳後，媽媽收拾餐檯的碗碗碟碟。
The security guard ordered the trespasser to clear off.
保安員喝令白撞者消失（即是要他離開）。
For family honour, he endeavours to clear his name of suspicion.
為了家聲，他努力洗脫對他名譽的嫌疑。
Come 來、抵達
Come on !
來吧、快點！（一般用以游說或催促別人）
Come off it !
勿自誇耀、吹噓！（表示不信其言）。
The plan has come off well. 計劃進行順利。
He is very resourceful and can always come up with good ideas.
他很機智，往往能提出好主意。
With more persuasion, his boss may come round and accept his proposal.
再多些游說，他的老闆可能會回心轉意（即被說服）而接納他的建議。
Do come round when you have time.

Cut 剪、割、砍
Cut it out ! 住嘴、別說了！
He was rather cut up after his wife passed away.
太太身故後，他感到切膚之痛。

對數目有著專長的他，是特別勝任為專業會計師。（即簡直是天生的專才）
This problem cuts across departmental responsibilities and requires joint action.
此問題涉及跨部門的職責，需要聯合行動。
Fall 跌落、下降、下陷、衰退
If Plan A falls through, we can fall back on Plan B.
若A計劃失敗，我們可轉用B計劃。（即改用後備方案）
Close friends rarely fall out. 摯友罕有不和、爭吵。
Feed 餵飼、供應
He is quite impatient and gets fed up easily.
他頗乏耐性，容易厭煩。
Give 給予、餽贈、捐獻
With the combat against corruption, we must not give in or give up !
為肅貪倡廉，我們並不能退讓或放棄！
The suspect gave himself up to the Police.
疑犯向警方自首、投案。
