Oldies
這些現象都見於Neil Sedaka和Elvis Presley的歌曲 "Sweet Sixteen" 和 "Little Sister"。Steve Lawrence的 "Go Away, Little Girl" 和Bobby Vee的 "Come Back When You Grow Up" 更在命題直接顯示出這種性別和年齡的歧視。
但這些表面的男性優越,其實僅一幌子,骨子裡是一種錯失機會的自身懺悔:道出自己忽略對方從funny face和tom boy蛻變為華衣美服的天使的過程,即Neil Sedaka歌詞中「My little tomboy wears satin and lace」和「She used to be such skinny little girl, but all of a sudden she is out of this world」所表達的遲來的驚豔感覺。
此外,男方故作灑脫和決斷之餘,以退為進,道出口不對心地為對方荌g:例如Steve Lawrence的 "Go Away, Little Girl" 中男方站在道德高地,唱出「I am not supposed to be alone with you./ I know your lips are sweet,/ But our lips must never meet,/ I am dating somebody else./ And I must be true.」明是叫她離去,暗裡卻怕自己定力不夠,抵受不了對方的誘惑:「 It's hurting me more/ Each minute that you delay/ When you're near me like this/ You're much too hard to resist./ So go away little girl/ Before I beg you to stay.」
說到男性優越,Bobby Vee的那首 "Come Back When You Grow Up" 更指女方少不更事:「still living in a paper doll world」,不知「living ain't easy, loving's twice as tough.」,所以勸她去掉那些「wide-eyed innocence」,經歷多點世故後才與他談戀愛吧。
當中內容是青年拒絕比他年輕幾歲的鄰居女孩的示愛,令對方淚如泉湧,「her teardrops fell like rain...」,只好好言相勸「you'll forget me by and by/ You're just fifteen/ And I am twenty two./ And Joni, I just can't wait for you.」,青年離開小鎮謀生,鄰居女郎的倩影令他魂牽夢迴,遂收拾一切,回歸故里,向女方求愛。 「Jimmy, Jimmy. Please don't cry/ You'll forget me by and by./ It's been five years since you've been gone./ Jimmy, I married your best friend, John.」
