除了說 Happy Lunar New Year（農曆新年快樂）之外，最常用的一定是「恭喜發財」（Wishing you prosperity and wealth）。Prosperity有「興旺、成功」的意思，而wealth則指「財富」。
一般來說，大部分在香港居住的外國朋友都學懂譯音 kung hei fat choy，或者今年我們可學習用其他祝賀語：
大吉大利：Wishing you great fortune and favor. Fortune指「運氣」，favor指「利益、好處」。
健康長壽：Wishing you longevity and health. Longevity的意思就是「長壽」，上海人愛吃的長壽麵都可直接翻譯成longevity noodles。
龍馬精神：Wishing you boundless energy. Boundless是形容詞，指「無盡的」，boundless energy就指「無盡的精神及體力」。
福星高照：Good luck in the year ahead. The year ahead指「來年」，你可以加以上不同的祝賀詞於它前面去表達新年祝福，例如：Wishing you good fortune/ health/ prosperity in the year ahead。
除祝賀語之外，每次跟外國同事去茶樓，很多人都認為為各項食物翻譯很困難。相信大家都想知道新年食品的翻譯：
Reunion dinner（團圓飯）
Rice cake（年糕）
Turnip cake（蘿蔔糕）
Taro cake（芋頭糕）
Water chestnut cake（馬蹄糕）
Melon seeds（瓜子）
Sweetened dried lotus seeds（糖蓮子）
很多香港人都以為蘿蔔糕的翻譯是carrot cake，但是蘿蔔糕的材料是白蘿蔔，而不是紅蘿蔔，因此大家要特別注意。
生肖Chinese Zodiac
最後，有關新年的話題還有「生肖」。生肖是Chinese Zodiac或animal signs，而表達生肖年就可用the year of the（動物）。因此，拜年時可問問親朋戚有：
What's the Chinese zodiac/ animal sign of this year?（今年是什麼年？）
It's the year of the Dog.（今年是狗年。）
What animal sign were you born under? /What's your animal sign? （你屬什麼？）
