 就早些時為大家提供的中英類似詞句第二輯,希望能夠使大家聯想到別的相對詞,加深了對此等文句的認知,繼而更應用於日常生活和社交中。

 When we were young, there was only the typewriter. Now with advances in technology, we have to use the computer. So we live and learn.

 小時候,我們只有打字機。現今科技先進,我們要用電腦。真是活到老學到老(學無止境)。

 With his meagre income, he is really living from hand to mouth.

 靠他微薄的收入過活,他實在家無隔日糧(手停口停)。

 Athletes expect to meet their match in the Olympic Games.

 運動健兒都意味著奧運會上遇上勁敵(棋逢敵手)。

 Responsible officers never pass the buck or blame others for their mistakes.

 負責人的人員永不卸膊或將自己的過失推卸別人。

 In Hong Kong, we go for fair deals and no one should have to pay under the table.

 香港推崇公平交易,辦事毋須進行檯底交易(賄賂)。

To put all eggs in one basket 孤注一擲

 In investment, we should diversify and not put all our eggs in one basket.

 投資需多元化,切勿孤注一擲(獨孤一味)。

 With any change of government, some would fear there maybe raking up of the past for vengeance.

 大凡改朝換代,總有人恐懼可能會秋後算賬(翻舊賬)。

 The audience was sceptical that he could regurgitate coins he had swallowed. When he spat them out one after another, everyone admitted that seeing was believing.

 觀眾懷疑他是否真的可以吐回吞入的輔幣。當他逐一噴出時,在座的均認為耳聞不如目睹。

 When the Emperor grieved for the casualties in a fire he had ordered, it was evident his were crocodile's tears.

 暴君焚城後為傷亡者哀傷,明顯只是貓哭老鼠假慈悲(假落淚)。

 He has no principles and just sits on the fence, hoping to further his own interests.

 他毫無原則,只做騎牆派,期望從中獲利。

 To split hairs 吹毛求疵

 The fastidious lady is difficult to please, always splitting hairs.

 那奄尖的(愛挑剔的)女士極難討好,總是吹毛求疵。

 The comedian was hilarious. I laughed till my sides were splitting.

 那諧角極之惹笑,我笑破肚皮。

 In fair competition, no one would try to steal a match on others.

 在公平競賽中,任何人都不會試圖偷步。

 Do not let slip the opportunity; strike while the iron is hot!

 勿失良機,打鐵趁熱哩!

 When we are wrong, we should swallow our pride and apologise.

 犯錯時,我們應低聲下氣,向人道歉。

To take a leaf from someone's book向別人取經

 He is a good example. I often take a leaf from his book.

 他是好榜樣,我常常向他學習(取經)。

 Giving assistance to a fastidious individual is a thankless task.

 協助一個奄尖者(愛挑剔的人)往往是吃力不討好。

 When gentler means are not effective, we may have to use a five to fight a five.

 當較平和處事的方法不奏效,則可能要硬功,以毒攻毒。

 Now let us take a rest!
