Improve people's livelihood and care for the working class

Several labor groups took to the streets on the May 1 Labor Day to fight for workers' rights, as wealth disparity has further aggravated and became universal since the global adoption of quantitative easing policies after the financial tsunami in 2008. The local working class suffers from ever-increasing burdens, whose voices and well-being our government ought to heed and strive continuously to improve.

The SAR government accents labor protection and has made significant improvements in employee rights. The statutory paternity leave is officially in force. The statutory minimum wage was raised from HK$30 to HK$32.5 per hour from May 1. Labor groups have demanded that the government take actions as awareness of rights protection elevates: stipulate standard working hours, unify statutory and public holidays, abandon the offsetting mechanism of MPF, improve retirement protection. This shows the collective quest of the working class for more extensive social care. Understandable as their quest is, we need also to consider the actual affordability of employers and society at large.¡]2-5-2015¡^
