Violent anti-trader protest not tolerated

There was another demonstration against mainland visitors in the shopping malls in Shatin. The protesters scuffled several times with the police who were there to maintain order. Recently, a little mob of activists in Hong Kong confronted mainlanders on the pretext of "anti-parallel trading." These radicals are destroying Hong Kong's long-established tourist-friendly image and seriously damaged business. To maintain social order, the police must strengthen law enforcement and penalize stirrers who target mainlanders and harass retailers.

Honkongers and mainlanders are siblings living under the same roof. We also travel a lot to the mainland, shopping and sight-seeing, and are never jeered at by our compatriots. Putting ourselves into their shoes, how would we feel if we were treated the same way? As the Chinese saying goes, "anyone who calls in on us is a dear guest." When we travel abroad, we will not want to be discriminated. This minority of people who treat our compatriots rudely should indeed make us embarrassed. (16-2-2015)
