在English Language paper 3 Listening and Integrated Skills中,無論同學選擇作答較容易的Part B1,還是較複雜的Part B2,都有可能在extended writing中遇到撰寫email的情況。那麽email有什麽特別格式?它與memo有什麽不同?在撰寫兩者的subject lines時,應注意哪些地方?今天會和同學討論一下。
1. Email與memo格式
簡單來說,email與 memo格式都包括兩部分:(1)guide words及(2)內文。

雖然真正的email可能同以上的格式有少許分別,但以上是考試時會遇見的形態。要留意的是,無論在email或memo,當你填寫guide words時,一定要將information align with最長的guide words。以下的格式是錯誤的demonstration,因為在填寫guide words 時,作者沒有做到alignment:

在content 的部分,要留意Email會有salutation(例如Dear David)和complimentary close(例如yours sincerely),以及signature。在memo中是不需要提供salutation,complimentary close和signature資料。
2. 何謂好的subject line
很多同學忽略了subject line的重要性,其實subject line主要是讓讀者能夠在最短的時間掌握email或memo的重要性,從而決定閱讀它們。簡單來說,effective subject line應該是一句(1)incomplete及(2)沒有punctuation marks的短句。
除此之外,在撰寫subject line時亦應多以action verb,可包括verb、gerund等來開始。例如example 1會比example 2好。
